Support Vehicle

Sapio vestra hostis — know your enemy. The Gibb River Road is 700km of mostly unsealed road linking the west and east Kimberley, graded annually and still packing corrugations, dust, jump-ups, off-camber corners, and deep river crossings for good measure. Modern day motoring adventure, and your support vehicle needs to be up to it — preparation beats bravado every time.

Carrying your bikes
A trailer is the most effective way to carry bikes without frame damage, and gives you extra storage for camping gear. If you’d rather use a rack, look at ISI Carriers — purpose-built off-road bike carriers that avoid the frame-clamping and departure-angle problems of standard racks.
Vehicle notes
- Modern high-clearance 4WDs handle the trip comfortably; drive to the conditions.
- Soft-roaders can complete the trip with care and preparation, but expect a rough ride.
- A hard-top camper trailer doubles as basic accommodation and a base for bike racks.
